| THE BEATLES | ||||||||
| RARE RECORDINGS | ||||||||
| INSTRUCTIONS | ||||||||
| For the purpose of this list I regard "rare recordings" as anything not on a major full length album by The Beatles or as individual solo artists as issued in England or The United States (excluding "Anthology 1,2,3", "Live At The BBC", and John Lennon "Anthology"). Many of the items have been "legally" released but not "officially" released. Also, some of the videos listed are not "rare" per se and have been officially released. | ||||||||
| The information is given as accurately as possible. A question mark (?) denotes that the information is probably correct but I am still unsure or there is some doubt. | ||||||||
| The list has two main catagories--Audio and Video. Each of those is divided into Beatles group, then as individuals. Those catagories are then divided as follows: | ||||||||
| STUDIO SESSIONS - This should be fairly obvious. It could also include radio and television studios. | ||||||||
| The "Barrett Mixes" were made by Abbey Road engineer John Barrett while researching the EMI archives for Beatles recordings. This was prior to Mark Lewisohn's research. These are also the tapes used in the off-line recordings made at "The Abbey Road Show" and "The E.M.I. boardroom". The "E.M.I. boardroom" , allegedly, was a screening of the proposed selections for "The Abbey Road Show". | ||||||||
| GET BACK SESSIONS - This focuses exclusively on recordings made between Jan. 2 - Jan. 31, 1969. | ||||||||
| OFFICIAL ALTERNATE MIXES - Officially released alternate mixes from through out the world. | ||||||||
| HOME RECORDINGS - These are obvious but also include any recordings made in a non-studio setting | ||||||||
| RADIO BROADCASTS & TELEVISION TELECASTS - obvious | ||||||||
| CONCERTS - These are major public performances before a larger audience. | ||||||||
| SPOKEN ITEMS - Non-musical items that don't fall in to any other catagory. | ||||||||
| ODDS AND ENDS - Items that I feel don't fit into any specific catagory. | ||||||||
| BOGUS BEATLES - Items that have been alleged or believed to be or involve The Beatles. | ||||||||
| VIDEOS - This is obvious. Note that nearly all video items have also been listed in the audio sections. | ||||||||
| All items are listed in chronological order. An example is 2/11/64 means February 11, 1964. This info is the best I can determine from, often times, a variety of sources. In the "Radio Broadcasts" and "Television Telecasts" sections the listings might be either the recording date or the transmission date. Please note that some items are listed two or even three times. An example is if a concert was also on radio or television, it is likely listed more than once. | ||||||||
| Audio (and video) quality is stated as best as I can describe. Obviously, quality is subject to the ears and eyes of the individual. My ratings are based relative to "rare" recordings yet my opinion might differ from that of another person. My rating codes are as follows: | ||||||||
| EX - excellent - based on superior quality rare recordings and comparable to official releases | ||||||||
| VG - very good - close to excellent but not quite | ||||||||
| GD - good - reasonable but it depends on the listener | ||||||||
| FR - fair - listenable but rough | ||||||||
| PR - poor - very bad, almost unlistenable, for die-hards and completists only | ||||||||
| The video ratings are for Video-Audio. | ||||||||
| Item location codes (generally but not always) follow the quality codes. These are basically for my personal use to indicate where that particular item is located (i.e. what record, CD, or tape). I have included a code index in case anyone else is interested. | ||||||||
| Finally, remember that human error and personal opinion is very possible through out the entire list. My understanding and ideas of things might not be the same as that of someone else. But it'll be darn close. | ||||||||
